Inauguration

As part of the Swachh Survekshan initiative, Chittur-Thathamangalam Municipality has set up a water booth and commenced the distribution of free refreshments for members of the public visiting the municipal office for various purposes, helping them find relief from the summer heat. The programme was inaugurated by Municipal Chairperson Adv. Sumeesh Achuthan.

The event was attended by Vice Chairperson Krishnaleela B., Welfare Standing Committee Chairperson K.A. Sheeba, Public Works Standing Committee Chairperson Jayanthi M.G., and Health Standing Committee Chairperson R. Babu.

Councillors Radhakrishnan M., Gopakumar P., Anitha N., Rahul Krishna, Sunitha Arumukhan, and Radhamani S. also participated in the programme. Municipal Secretary Sreerag M.S. and municipal staff members were present on the occasion.

The Chairperson informed that the free refreshment distribution facility will continue at the municipality until the end of the summer season.

Waste managment

Chittur-Thathamangalam Municipality Conducts EcoSense Haritha Sena Scholarship Programme

To create awareness among children about waste management and environmental sustainability, the Local Self-Government Department and Chittur-Thathamangalam Municipality organized the EcoSense Haritha Sena Scholarship Programme at the Municipal Nehru Auditorium on 11 February 2026.

A total of 75 students from eight schools within the municipal limits were selected for the Haritha Sena Scholarship. The scholarship programme was based on activities such as the formation of Haritha Sabhas and Eco Clubs in schools, as well as the conduct of Waste-to-Art competitions. Students selected through these initiatives were awarded a scholarship of ₹1,500 each.

The programme was inaugurated by Municipal Chairperson Adv. Sumeesh Achuthan, who also presented certificates of appreciation to the students. Awards for outstanding performance were presented to GVHSS Chittur and GUPS Chittur, while GUPS Thathamangalam received recognition in the Special Category.

The function was presided over by Mrs. Krishnaleela B. (Vice Chairperson). The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Sreerag M.S. (Municipal Secretary).

Felicitations were offered by Mr. Mohammed Ashiq M. (Development Standing Committee Chairman), Mrs. K.A. Sheeba (Welfare Standing Committee Chairperson), Mr. R. Babu (Health Standing Committee Chairman), Mrs. Jayanthi M.G. (Public Works Standing Committee Chairperson), and Mr. M. Sashikumar (Education, Arts and Sports Standing Committee Chairman).

Councillors Athira Yeshu, Haseena P., Umaiba A., V.Y. Vijayan, Gopakumar P., Radhakrishnan M., and Sudha Biju were also present at the event.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Thankam T.A., Municipal Clean City Manager. During the programme, the Clean City Manager also conducted an awareness session on Swachh Survekshan 2025, the national ranking initiative for evaluating the performance of urban local bodies, and explained the activities that schools should undertake to support cleanliness and sustainability goals.
